Dallas, TX June 29, 2010 — Visitors to Red River Paper’s web site can now view the images of two dozen professional photographers and learn in detail how each picture was conceived and shot.
The featured Pros at www.redrivercatalog.com/pros/ were chosen for accomplishments in their photographic specialties: advertising, editorial, fashion, fine arts, food, photojournalism, portrait, sports, still life, theatrical, weddings, wildlife and others.

“We’ve had just a tremendous response,” says Drew Hendrix, Red River’s vice president of marketing. “I think that’s because the main emphasis is on how these outstanding images were made, and not just on our papers.”
Hendrix goes on to explain that although all the Red River Pros use his company’s papers he wasn’t going to let that dominate the program. “We wanted to get the back-story on their images and share that with our customers.”
David Bergman, a Sports Illustrated photographer who also photographs top rock bands explains how he anticipated a “fire breathing” shot at a recent concert and took a few kicks to the head in order to capture it. Joel Grimes talks about special techniques he uses to composite his glamour shots. Paul Roark, a fine arts photographer whose work has been compared to Ansel Adams tells viewers how he shot a stunning image of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Each photographer’s profile includes their biography, the assignment, its execution, details on postproduction work, and how the final output medium was chosen. “All the details are there,” says Hendrix. “It’s fascinating to learn how these images were conceived and shot. It’s a rare chance for our customers and other visitors to find out how a photographer thinks before they even pick up a camera.”
There’s also plenty of technical information. While one might think that a cocktail is just a cocktail, renowned New York City food photographer Lou Manna quickly dispels that notion as he shows water droplets created with glycerin. Still life photographer Judy Mandolf explains how to break the rules for dramatic lighting while Joseph Victor Stefanchik, Pulitzer Prize finalist takes viewers on location for a stunning six-subject night portrait he shot at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
“Our pros went through a tough selection process,” recalls Hendrix. “There are lots of excellent photographers around but very few who are able to share their experiences and techniques in meaningful ways. Many of our customers have told us they gained more practical knowledge from our Red River Pros than from other sources. That,” he concludes, “is what really makes the program exciting.”
